Betel Nut Spit stains on the image of Sudhakantha

Staff Reporter, Chirang, December 15: The worldwide popular musician, Sudhakantha, Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's portrait painted on the concrete wall of roadside, where some evil person takes advantage of the darkness of night and throws the spit of betel nut. It may be recalled that on November 5, 2011, on the day of the death of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, a fan Chitta Barman named the road in front of his house i.e. the road leading to the college along the Basugaon Higher Secondary School ground as Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Road. Along with planting flowering trees of different types on the side of the road, interesting pictures of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's image in the concrete wall, Bihu, the national festival of Assam, the women carrying leaves in the tea gardens etc. are painted. The birth anniversary and death anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika is being celebrated every year in this place with the presence and support of various ethnic groups. The lovers of Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika strongly condemned such a heinous act of humiliating man by throwing spit in the image of such a humble person. President of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika Memorial Conservation Committee Amrit Narayan Patgiri and Vice President Pabitra Kumar Roy expressed shock over the incident. Young social workers, poet-litterateurs, teachers Pradyot Goswami, Bishal Paul, etc. also condemned the incident and expressed grief.
