USTM shines in East Zone Inter University Basketball

Staff Reporter Guwahati, November 17: In a breath-taking match held in the evening today, the Women’s basketball team of University of Science and Technology Meghalaya has defeated Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur and made its way to the semi-finals of the ongoing AIU East Zone Inter University Basketball (Women’s) Tournament and thereby qualified itself to participate in the forthcoming Khelo India University Games. The other three teams that qualified for the semi-finals are: MG Kashi Vidyapith University, Uttar Pradesh, University of Calcutta and Banaras Hindu University. The AIU East Zone Inter University Basketball Men & Women’s Tournaments 2022-23 is being organised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi and hosted by USTM. This 11-day long tournament began from November 15 with the Women’s Basketball competitions in which 36 teams were participating representing different NE states, Odisha, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal. The women’s event will continue till November 18 while the Men’s events will start from November 22 to 25 in the sports complex of USTM. A total of 51 teams are going to participate in the Men’s competitions. The top 4 teams from both Women’s and Men’s events will participate in Khelo India University Games. Speaking in this context, Rizaul Ahmed, Convenor, Sports Forum USTM and Organizing Secretary of East Zone Inter University Basketball Competition said, “Accommodation for all the 450 players, 70 coaches in the women’s competition and 612 players and 100 coaches in the Men’s competitions from November 17-26 have been taken care of by USTM. The event will be judged by 20 FIBA, BFI affiliated referees.”
