Nagaon, November 15: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon organized a grand harvest programme of sali paddy at a crop field near Jungalbalahu on Monday last. The programme was initiated under Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART). The programme was ceremonially inaugurated by Dr Niranjan Deka, principal scientist and Head of KVK, Nagaon Dr. Niranjan Deka and anchored by Gayatri Goswami. In his inaugural speech, Dr Deka welcomed all the distinguished guests and other participants to the unique harvesting programme. Dr Deka also explained about the objective of the programme and the benefit of using the mini combine harvester. Dr. Kanwar Singh, Resident Coordinator, IRRI stressed upon the objectives of the various work done under the APART, IRRI project and the various mechanization introduced through this project and the benefits of using the machinery. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon Bijita Deka was present in the programme as the chief guest . Dr. Rupam Borgohain, Nodal Officer, OPIU, APART, AAU, Jorhat, Dr. Amal Ch. Sarmah, chief scientist, RARS Shillongani, Dr Arunima Deb Choudhury, honorary consultant, ARIAS society, APART, and more than 100 farmers including both male and female representing different blocks of Nagaon and Hojai district. The programme was followed by on spot harvesting of the paddy - var swarna sub - 1 using mini combine harvester. Dr Surya Kant Khandai, associate scientist, IRRI explained the handling and demonstration of the machine. Dipen Ch Nath, SMS, soil science, APART personnel of KVK Nagaon, Agriculture Dept. officials and company technical experts from J.S Industries were also present in the demonstration programme, a release added.
