WDC celebrated Lakhimpur District Day

Staff Reporter, North Lakhimpur, October 8: Women Development Centre (WDC), a prominent NGO of Assam, celebrated the Lakhimpur District Day with the artisans of Golden Fingers Farmer Producer Company Ltd. in Boginadi and Nowboicha Development Blocks of Lakhimpur District recently. After celebrating the Day in Boginadi Development Block on September 30, the Day was celebrated at the community hall of Salmora village under Nowboicha Development Block on October 1. Probin Nath, the volunteer and Jyoti Topno, the Community Mobilizer, uttered warm words of welcome and felicitated the Project Director of Women Development Centre Bhagyawati Bhuyan, the President of 3 no. Salmora ward under Nowboicha Development Block Nayanmoni Mili Taye, retired teacher of Gorsiga Tribal Higher Secondary School Raghunath Doley, social worker of Solmara under Nowboicha Development Block Aliba Mili, the President of Thowthowani Gaon Panchayat Dipanjali Doley Sonowal and additional teacher of Gumnadi Chah Jonojati M.E School Samir Turi and, the gatherings of both the Development Blocks of Lakhimpur District. The program of the Day began with a chorus performed by women of Agarguri village. The meeting, held on the occasion of the Day, was chaired by Raghunath Doley where the objective of the occasion was explained by the Project Director of WDC Bhagyawati Bhuyan. In her explanation of the objective, Bhagyawati Bhuyan thanked Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan for taking initiative and giving permission to celebrate the 50 years of Golden Jubilee of the Lakhimpur District Day. She said, "Golden Jubilee is an occasion to remember all the founding members of Lakhimpur District since 1971 and till date. "In 1972, Lakhimpur district was recognized as a separate district having two sub-Divisions -- Dhakuakhana and North Lakhimpur," she further said. She also mentioned that Lakhimpur district has developed in remarkable ways in institutions, administration setups, forestry, developmental sectors, education, Health sectors, transportations and communications, railways and in many other sectors. It was possible because of the great leaders of past and present who always look towards the development of the district. The Panchayat Presidents and the guest of honors also highlighted their experiences of past and present views on the various schemes with which women, farmers and other groups were helped to raise their income to live a dignified life. The Lakhimpur District Day was celebrated with an array of sights and sounds filled with various programs. Competitions were held on different activities such as women displaying their products, cultural programs, speeches by students and games. The program of the Day was concluded with prize distribution for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners of every activity and a word of gratitude by Nayanmoni Mili.
