Guwahati, September 30: IIE the Resource Agency for implementation of ‘Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana’ (PMVDY) scheme in Assam has successfully conducted twenty four advocacy programs over eight districts of Assam. ‘Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana’ scheme is exclusively developed for the forest dwellers collecting and processing naturally available forest produce for earning their livelihood. ‘Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana’ scheme is under the direct purview of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India and aims for the sustainable livelihood generation of the Tribal beneficiaries. The scheme is being implemented by Assam Plain Tribes Development Corporation with the Department of Tribal Affairs Government of Assam, being the nodal agency. IIE has been engaged as the Resource Agency for implementation, while TRIFED is the sponsoring agency for the project. The PMVDY scheme has been implemented in the state of Assam in three phases. The 128 Van Dhan Vikas Kendra Clusters (VDVKC) sanctioned under 1st and 2nd phase of the PMVDY scheme are made operational with training, capacity building, and production and finally marketing of the products. The 174 VDVKCs sanctioned under 3rd phase of PMVDY scheme are already surveyed and Advocacy Programs are being conducted in eight districts of Assam. The advocacy programs are primarily focused on building awareness amongst the beneficiaries about the project in general, so that the beneficiaries could participate with a definitive intent and aim to achieve the desired benefits as promised under the scheme. So far, the advocacy programs have been conducted in Nagaon, Golaghat, Dima Hasao, Udalguri, Sonitpur, North Lakhimpur, Nalbari and Bongaigaon districts of Assam. The upcoming advocacy programs in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Kokrajhar, Kamrup M, Kamrup R, Majuli, Dhemaji, Morigaon, Charaideo, Darrang, Karimganj, Tamulpur, Hailakandi, Dhubri, Baksa, Chirang and Jorhat district will be held shortly.
