Wild elephant rescued in Pengeri

Staff Reporter, Tinsukia, August 30: A wild elephant was rescued from a pit near the Torani Reserve Forest in Pengeri under Doomdooma forest division of Tinsukia district The wild elephant, which had come out in search of food on Sunday night, was trapped in a roadside pit entering Torani village in the middle of the Pengeri reserve forest.The elephant, which had been trapped in the pit, was rescued by the forest staff and the local people with great difficulty on Monday.The wild elephant, trapped in the pit, is ultimately saved due to the promptness of the Torani local people.According to the complaint, the wild elephant was thus trapped in the pit after the contractor who constructed the road unauthorisedly dug a huge drain along the road.With the help of local people, a rescue operation was carried out under the leadership of Hiren Medak, forest officer of The Khatangpani range.
