Guwahati, August 12: Guwahati Unit of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya organized a Popular Talk on “Solar Energy, Technologies for its Exploitation and Possibilities of Innovation'' in association with SECONE Society to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Indias Independence through Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The event was graced by Prof. Mridul Hazarika; Vice Chancellor of MSSV, Dr. Mrinal Kumar Bora; Registrar of MSSV, Anil Saikia; President and H.C.Das; Secretary of the SECONE Society, Basanta Kr. Das; retired GM-BRPL along with faculty members, staff and students of the University attended the session. Prof. Mridul Hazarika delivered the welcome address and enlightened the gathering on the need to go renewable. The expert Speaker of the talk was Mrinal Krishna Chaudhury, Director, Assam Energy Development Agency, Govt. of Assam. Anil Saikia gave a brief description of SECONE Society, H.C.Das talked about the need to save energy and he also informed about the upcoming collaborative events to be organized in the coming months. Basanta Kr. Das talked on the need to think ahead of time and use solar energy for the greater development of humanity. The expert speaker M.K. Chaudhury talked about how Solar energy, being renewable, free and ecologically safe, is more attractive for the use of mankind than other primary energy resources such as fossil fuels. Present day technology allows the utilization of the sun's energy in the form of heat, electricity and photo-chemical processes. Developing countries like India lying in the solar belt, can take advantage of this natural and renewable resource. Work has already begun to harness solar energy like the introduction of solar cookers, solar water heaters, solar street lights, solar operated devices, etc. He also spoke about Assam Energy Development Agencies contribution in establishing several solar power projects in places like Golaghat, Sivasagar, Karbi Anglong, etc. Earlier Babul Bora, Director (Planning & Finance), MSSV & Pradhan Sampadak, Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha sent a benedictory message for the success of the programme which was conveyed by the host Bichitra Bikash, Asst.
