DD Assam to Telecast ‘Swaraj-Bharat Ke Swatantra Sangram Ki Samagra Gatha'

Staff Reporter, Guwahati, August 18: Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati will telecast the serial ‘Swaraj – Bharat Ke Swatantrata Sangram Ki Samagra Gatha’ in Assamese language from August 20. Addressing a press conference at Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati today, Director General, North East Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting B. Narayanan said that the 75-episode serial will be telecast in DD Assam at 9 PM every Saturday and it will be repeated on Sunday from 9 PM to 10 PM and on Wednesday and Friday from 9.30 AM to 10.30 AM. Narayanan informed that this serial will also be broadcast on All India Radio at 11 AM every Saturday. Other than Assamese the serial is dubbed in eight other regional languages- Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Odia, he added. Talking about the ideas behind the show Swaraj, the Director General said that this serial will highlight the contribution of the freedom fighters and unsung heroes of the freedom struggle which will help to pass knowledge in an interesting way. This will also help to revitalize Doordarshan and recapture the audience, he added. He asserted that this serial will enable future generations to know the history of the freedom struggle and march forward with the inspirations from those stories. Narayanan also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the special screening of the TV show ‘Swaraj – Bharat Ke Swatantrata Sangram Ki Samagra Gatha’ on Wednesday in Delhi. ‘Swaraj’ serial was launched on August 5 last at a function at Akashwani Bhavan by Union Minister for Home & Cooperation Amit Shah in the presence of Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur and Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan. The broadcast of the serial began on August 14 in Hindi on DD National. Every fresh episode of Swaraj will be aired from 9 PM to 10 PM on Sunday on DD National and it will be repeated on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The idea behind the serial is to reproduce an audio-visual history of India’s search for ‘Swaraj’. The repertoire of photographs, films, oral histories, personal memoirs, autobiographies, biographies, multi-lingual regional literature remain mostly unexplored and largely absent from the public consciousness. The serial being presented in a docu-drama format has been researched well by a team of leading historians. S. Natarajan, Deputy Director General, Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati, Shri Arup Kumar Mishra, Head of Programmes, Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati, Shri Ankur Lahoty, Head of News, Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati, Smt Pavni Gupta, Deputy Director, Press Information Bureau, Guwahati and Shri Debashish Haldar, Programme Executive, DDK, Guwahati were also present in today's press conference.
