Kopili Hydroelectric Power project release dam water

District admin sensitizes people to be alert

HARESWAR BORAH, Nagaon, June 15: The authority concerned of Kopili Hydroelectric Power Project has released the additional water from its dam situated at Khandung in Dima Hasao and other places since this morning because of which the water level of the Kapili river has been rising till the time of filing this report, sources said. Meanwhile the district administration of Nagaon through an official notification today requested the people living in larger areas near the bank of Kapili river under Kampur and Raha revenue circles to be alert for any possible situation in the next few hours. Besides, in the same notification, the administration also banned fishing, swimming and bathing in Kapili river under Raha and Kampur revenue circles with immediate effect, sources added further.

Following the official notification issued by district administration, the officials from Kampur circle office spread this alert message through microphone at various sensitive areas in the greater Kampur like Kampur Bhalbhaliagaon, Gosaingaon, Saibokgaon, etc. It is pertinent to be mentioned that the first wave of flood in the last month severely affected over 3.5 lakhs people under both the revenue circles in the district and also claimed the lives of 10 people including children. Besides, the wave of flood destroyed several thousands hectares of vegetables and other crops.
