CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma pays rich tributes to Deendayal Upadhaya on the latter’s birth anniversary

Dispur, Sept 25: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today paid rich tributes to Deendayal Upadhaya on his birth anniversary at a function organised at the state headquarter of the BJP here today. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that Deendayal Upadhaya has had an enormous contribution towards intellectual enrichment of Bharatiya Jansang, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the BJP. He said that in the year 1951, when Dr. Shayama Prasad Mukherjee talked about the formation of Bharatiya Janasangh, Deendayal Upadhaya was one of the prominent persons that RSS sent to Janasang. Under his leadership, Bharatiya Janasang secured to get up to 35 seats in Lok Sabha elections as Deendayal Upadhaya was instrumental in forging a strong opposition against the Congress. Speaking about his cultural nationalism, Dr. Sarma said that drifting away from the colonial mentality prevalent during that time, Chief Minister said that Deendayal Upadhaya propounded  a new thought. He also said that in the face of diversities, the country is known for its unity. Deendayal Upadhaya using this unity promoted cultural nationalism. The Chief Minister said that the nationalism which is based on culture is tend to be very powerful as he observed that cultural nationalism is much more potent than political nationalism. The Chief Minister said that Deendayal Upadhaya always believed that a system should be in place which can bring smile to even the weakest. He said that all the schemes and programmes of the Modi led government at the centre bear the reflection of the philosophy propounded by Deendayal Upadhaya. He also said that Government of Assam though its Orunodoi scheme tried to economically and socially empower the economically insolvent people of the state following the teachings of Deendayal Upadhaya. Dr. Sarma said that the nation has to move forward following the philosophy of the stalwart.  Synchronising with the occasion, eminent artist Chandan Chutia presented a self-created portrait of Deendayal Upadhaya to the Chief Minister. Vice President Asom Pradesh Topon Kumar Gogoi, General Secretaries Asom Pradesh Pallab Lochan Das, Diplu Ranjan Sarma, Pulak Gohian and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
