Dr. Ranoj Pegu distributes supporting funds to PMVDY beneficiaries

Staff Reporter, Guwahati, November 20: Eighty-Four numbers of Van Dhan Vikas Kendra Clusters (VDVKCs) under Prime Minister Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM) received revolving fund amounting to Rupees 1.63Cr and supporting fund of Rupees 18 Lakhs at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati today. Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education (Higher, Secondary & Elementary), Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes (non-BTC). Government of Assam distributed the funds in the presence of Mukesh Ch Sahu, Principal Secretary Government of Assam, Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain), Pamthing Keishing, Deputy Manager, TRIFED Regional Office, Dr. Lalit Sharma Director IIE, senior officials of IIE, VDVKC beneficiaries and other dignitaries at a glittering function held at IIE. Along with fund distribution, an MoU was signed between Tezpur University & IIE towards knowhow of technology transfer for production of a new product – Pomelo Marmalade to be prepared by the Van Dhan Kendras and marketed under the TRISSAM brand name, also the newly launched Millets range of products and a rejuvenated website of trissam.com with e-commerce platform was also launched during the programme. Three outstanding performing Van DhanVikas Kendras were also felicitated by the Minister. While addressing the gathering, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education said “Prime Minister Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM) is a scheme exclusively developed for the forest dwellers collecting and processing naturally available forest produce for earning their livelihood. The beneficiaries of VDVKCs can now utilize the revolving and supporting funds received for procurement of raw materials & other operational expenses for producing quality products which can be marketed across the country” Dr. Lalit Sharma, Director of IIE welcomed all and gave a detailed preview of the Prime Minister Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM) scheme and Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Minor Forest Produce (MFP)scheme and how IIE, is implementing the scheme to tribal women beneficiaries. IIE, an organisation under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is the Resource Agency in implementation of Prime Minister Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM) scheme and Minimum Support Price for Minor Forest Produce (MSP for MFP Scheme), which is a flagship programme started by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India in the entire country. The main objective of the scheme is to provide better livelihood and socio-economic upliftment of tribal people, through value addition of Minor Forest Produces (MFPs). The revolving and supporting fund received by the VDVKCs will be utilized as working capital for procurement of raw materials & other operational expenses. Prime Minister Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM)is a scheme exclusively developed for the forest dwellers collecting and processing naturally available forest produce for earning their livelihood. It is under the direct purview of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India and aims for the sustainable livelihood generation of the Tribal beneficiaries. The scheme is being implemented by APTDC, state implementing agency with Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of Assam being the nodal agency, while TRIFED under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GoI is the sponsoring agency for the project.
