International Literacy day observed at Lakhimpur Commerce College

Staff Reporter, North Lakhimpur, September 8:The International Literacy Day was observed at Lakhimpur Commerce College, North Lakhimpur with calls to stress on creating awareness on the importance of literacy among the masses. A meeting was organized for that occasion by the publication cell of the college which was chaired by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal. The welcome address of the meeting was delivered by Dr. Harini Patowary Das of the English department and the objective of the meeting was explained by Runjun Baruah, Librarian of the college. Dr. Sikhamoni Borgohain of the Economics department attended the meeting as resource person. She delivered a speech on the evolution and significance of literacy day since its inception by UNESCO. The meeting was attended by G.K. Chetry, Vice Principal and other teaching faculty of the college along with library staff. Prizes to successful students in the essay competition which was held for that occasion were also distributed in that meeting. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Arupa Dutta of the Education department.
